Elche CF, or Elche Club de Fútbol if you're feeling fancy, is a Spanish soccer team that's been around since the dawn of time.

Okay, not really, but they were founded in 1923, which is pretty darn old in soccer years.

 

The team is based in Elche, a charming little city on the southeastern coast of Spain. Elche is famous for its palm trees, which are so numerous and lovely that they've been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. But enough about trees, let's get back to soccer.

Elche CF is known as the "Franjiverdes," which means "Green-Striped Ones" in Spanish. They play their home games at the Estadio Martínez Valero, a massive stadium that can hold over 33,000 fans. That's a lot of people! It's also worth noting that the stadium has a retractable roof, which is pretty nifty.

 

Over the years, Elche CF has had some ups and downs, as all teams do. They've spent most of their time in the lower leagues of Spanish soccer, but they've also had some stints in La Liga, the top tier of Spanish soccer. In fact, they're currently in La Liga 2022-2023
